Thirsty Thursdays: Celebrate National Ceviche Day With Pisco Portón!

Each year on June 28, Peruvians honor their most famous national dish with the Día Nacional del Cebiche, or National Ceviche Day.

Ceviche, also written as cebiche or seviche, has long been a source of pride and even national identity in Peru. The cultural importance of the dish, which at its simplest consists of fresh raw fish marinated in citrus juice (typically lime), prompted the Peruvian government to recognize ceviche as part of Peru’s national heritage.

Of particular note is the annual Festival Gastronómico “Cebiche Perú,” which normally runs from June 27 to July 1st.

Portón, the finest handcrafted pisco from Peru, has teamed up with renowned Chicago restaurants and bars to offer both delicacies -- pisco and ceviche -- to Chicago foodies in celebration of National Ceviche Day.

1. Sushi Samba (504 N Wells St., Chicago 60654) will be offering a ceviche and custom Portón cocktail pairing for $26 from June 28-30th.
2. Havana Grill (412 N Clark St., Chicago 60654) will be offering a ceviche and Portón cocktail pairing specials from June 28-30th.
3. Nacional 27 (325 W. Huron St., Chicago 60654) will be offering a ceviche and Portón cocktail pairing specials from June 28-30th.

Ceviche and Portón have many shared qualities. Both have their origins deeply rooted in Peruvian culture, both require superb craftsmanship and both require high quality ingredients.
