In celebration of Black History Month, this calendar will highlight events throughout the month of February in the Chicagoland area.
February 4 - Tonight Carmen DeLavallade, renowned dancer, choreographer and actress, will lead a “master class” for professional dancers and advanced level students who are currently enrolled in dance school or training.
Dancers should come prepared to present a piece they have created or have been working on. Following the individual presentations, Ms. DeLavallade will give direction on how to enhance the piece using her “Elements of Performance.” In addition, the dancers will learn from DeLavallade about her history making career and the evolution of the dance community.

February 5 - Winter Bonfire Series at Northerly Island - The Chicago Park District presents "Winter Bonfire" at Northerly Island tonight beginning at 5:30 p.m. Come outside and play this winter with Nature Oasis! Roast some marshmallows over the fire and enjoy some fun family winter activities at this free event! For more information call (312) 745-2910.
February 6 - The Chicago Urban League presents its 2013 Black History Month Film Festival beginning tonight with "Benji" The Ben Wilson Story." Ben Wilson was a top NBA recruit when he was gunned down on Chicago's South side during his senior year in high school. The series continues thru February 23rd. February 7 - Sugar Rush, Spark's dessert and wine fundraiser, is back - with a cherry on top! Honorary Event Chair Governor Pat Quinn invites you to them once again at the
elegant Hotel Allegro on February 7. You'll have a chance to outbid your friends in the silent auction and sample decadent confections with local beer and wine -- all in support of Chicago middle school youth! Tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door. To purchase tickets online click here.
February 8 - Kick-off the Chicago Auto Show by attending First Look for Charity tonight at McCormick Place. Tickets are $250 each, of which $207 is tax-deductible as a charitable donation. Enjoy an evening of fine dining and stellar entertainment, plus a chance to win a 2013 Buick Encore or a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe! For ticket information go here. February 8 - Akira and Lumen present Voodoo on the Bayou, a spring fashion show tonight at Lumen. Admission is free with RSVP here. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the fashion show begins at 11:30 p.m. You'll also receive a complimentary cocktail before midnight.
February 9 - The DuSable Museum of African American History presents Geoffrey & Carmen: A Memoir in Four Movements. Join renowned dancer/choreographer/actors Geoffrey Holder and Carmen DeLavallade for an evening of reflection about their colorful careers in the world of dance and theatre.

February 10 - Join the Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club in celebrating the 55th Grammy Awards. GRAMMY day will start with Kit Kat’s weekly “Divalicious” Sunday Brunch service, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Martinis will be featured at half-price ($6, regularly $12) the entire day, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
The specialty cocktail for the GRAMMY viewing party is the “Shine Bright Like a Diamond” martini (Effen cucumber vodka, Hpnotiq, splash of lime, garnished with a slice of cucumber and a glow stick, $6).
Kit Kat’s Diva Mocha Montrese will host the party and entertain throughout the evening as Rihanna (nominated for three awards).
