Winning Wine Wednesdays: Memorial Day Weekend Beer Tastings, Tours, & Celebrations



The first unofficial holiday of the Summer season begins this weekend. Kick-off your holiday with cool beer events beginning this Thursday thru May 26th.




Headquarters Beercade (950 W Wolfram – hqbeercade.com) is officially opening the doors to its pinball expansion Thursday, May 23rd at 7 p.m.

The 7,000 square foot expansion connecting to the Beercade will offer over 20 must-play pinball games (both oldies and today’s hits) located within a “pinball alley.” 

Guests can rewind to the ultimate #ThrowbackThursday and join Capacity Bar Group for the official grand opening evening! From special drink offers on the canned crafts and killer cocktails to arcade-quality pinball gaming, it’s the perfect way to press play on the weekend! Special guest DJ’s Greg Corner and Jonny Radtke (former Kill Hannah band mates and fans of the space) will set the vibe throughout the first evening.
The festivities will continue on throughout the weekend with doors opening at 7 p.m. on both Friday, May 24th and Saturday, May 25th. Look out for the Pin-ups for Pinball roller girls (or follow @HQ_Chicago on Twitter to see where they’re at); they’ll be out on the streets next week offering special passes and offers for the first weekend.



Chicago Craft Beer Week continues. Join Chicago’s Women of Craft Beer at Riverview Tavern in Roscoe Village, Thursday, May 23rd, 6:30 pm. (1958 W Roscoe St..)

The ladies behind some of your favorite breweries will be in attendance including Two Brothers Brewing, Goose Island, Rock Bottom Chicago, Lagunitas, Greenbush Brewing, Metropolitan, 4 Paws Brewery, Temperance Brewing and local craft beer store, Bottles and Cans.

There will be a screening of the documentary “The Love of Beer”, which focuses on the rise of women in the beer industry. There will  also be special tappings of local beer throughout the night including an exclusive collaboration brewed by the ladies themselves.

$1 per pint will be donated to the Chicago Chapter of “Dress For Success” a charity that promotes economic independence by providing professional clothing and resources to disadvantaged women.

This is event is open to the public, no ticket required. Come out and support the Midwest’s best!




Tour the best craft beer bars in Lincoln Park, Lakeview and Old Town featuring the following top Chicago Craft breweries. The tour will start at Old Town Pour House (1419 N. Wells) and will continue on to other fine craft beer bars including Burger Bar, Local Option, Lincoln Station and Murphy's Bleachers.

While you're at each pub, enjoy specialty craft beers (including several rare brews) while meeting some of the brewmasters and founders.  

While on the trolley, Liz Garibay of Tales, Taverns & Towns will provide tibdits of tavern and Chicago brewing history.  $20 ticket price includes transportation and a beer sample at each bar.  Reservations required.
