Foodie Fridays: Rockit Burger Bar Shows You 'How To Build A Better Burger'!

Restaurant impresario, Billy Dec, recently invited some of Chicago's top food writers and bloggers to his Wrigleyville Rockit Burger Bar to try out an innovative new concept in eating burgers!

Elevated experimental grilling is all the rage this year, and Rockit Burger Bar has truly taken it to the next level with an innovative Burger Lab program–an experimental “lab” where guests can create their own, one-of-a-kind hamburger using exotic meats, unexpected toppings, unique buns and seasonal sauces.

Featured ingredients have included: a wild boar bacon patty, foie-nut butter, housemade apple ginger kimchi, siracha ketchup, beer battered fried cheese curds, golden raisin-nut mostrada, buffalo fried rockshrimp and green tomato chutney.

C-Style invited two members of its team, Marsha Dean Murphy and Michael Murphy to try out the "lab" for themselves.

Check-out some of the selections and their thoughts below:

The burgers were unique.

1st Taster - Loaded Fries - Yukon waffle friesbbq pulled pork, nacho cheddar cheese, sour cream and scallions.  8

Comments:  Very tasty and the barbecue sauce gave it flavor.

2nd Taster - Apricot Turkey Burger - House made turkey patty, apricot-raisin chutney, grilled red onion, whipped goat cheese served with truffle fires.  10

Comments:  The burger was great! The sweetness of the apricot mixed with the onions gave it a unique taste.  My personal favorite.  The truffle fries were the biggest hit at the table!

3rd Taster - Huevos Rancheros Burger - Black Angus pattyfried egg, chihuahua cheese, corn tortilla strips, roasted salsa roja, jalapeno aioli served with seasoned curly fries.  4

Comments:  Since some of the toppings were left out and we didn't get the full effect of the burger.  So it tasted more like a traditional burger.

4th Taster - BURGERLAB (build your own burger)
We let the college girl at the table build the burger since we didn't really have a preference.  We choose bison patty, seeded semolina bun, foie-nut butter, golden raisin-pistachio mostarda and pickled jalapeno coleslaw.  7

Comments:  This was okay.  I just thought it was too much going on, but the college girl loved it.  It was still great to be able to build your burger to your liking.

5th Taster - Milkshake - Oreo or Butterfinger or Caramel Banana.  4

Comments:  The milkshake wasn't thick enough.

Drinks - A choice of craft beer or specialty cocktail.
Comments:  I had a glass of wine with fresh fruit but I forgot to write down  the name of the drink but it was great.

Rockit Burger is a great restaurant, with good food, pleasant staff and has a relaxed atmosphere.  It's also in a great location (right across from Wrigley Field).  There is a parking lot across the street that charges $10 or you can pay for street parking.

The overall experience was great and would rate the experience an 8.

Rockit Burger Bar is located at 3700 N. Clark Street in Chicago. For more information on building your own burger, times of operation, and more visit their website at www.rockitburgerbar.com
