Foodie Fridays: 'Girl in the Kitchen' Book Launch Party & More!

October 5th, I attended the book launch party for Stephanie Izard's first tome' called "Girl in the Kitchen:  How A Top Chef Cooks, Thinks, Shops, Eats, And Drinks".

I must admit, never having been to the Girl & The Goat restaurant, I was not sure what to expect.  I, personally, haven't owned a cook book since I got my trusty Betty Crocker book through the old Doubleday Book Club.

After beginning her 18-city tour in Denver, Colorado in September, Izard came back to Chicago to share her triumph with her adopted hometown of Chicago.

The well-oiled event was held at Salvage One which boasts incredible event space on its upper level. Guests were treated to amazing dishes (as you will see below) including; Shrimp, Corn, and Green Tomato Salad,
Crispy Braised Chicken Thighs with Black Bean Tapenade, Four-Cheese Macaroni with Apples and Bacon, Pan-Roasted New York Steaks with Sauteed Cucumbers and Salted Goat Milk Caramel, and Bacon-Braised Swiss Chard, among others!

The tastings stations were complimented by free-flowing cocktails, and incredible small-batch beers.  An assortment of desserts (which I missed) were also served.

All the recipes came directly from Girl in the Kitchen and were prepared and served by some of Izard's equally fabulous chef-friends representing some of Chicago's top-tier restaurants including; The Bristol, Perennial Virant, Lillie Q's, Primehouse, Avec, GT Fish & Oyster, Sprout, Chalkboard, Old Town Social, Socca, and Zac Brown Band.

The event was an absolute success and benefits Share Our Strength program to help the more than 16 million children in America who struggle with hunger each day.

The 'Goat' Tour continues through early 2012 and foodies in Chicago can get a personally signed copy from Izard during her appearances at Foodease Market at Water Tower Place on November 10th and at Macy's State Street store on November 11th.
