Don't you hate it when two fun-filled events occur on the same day? Sorry, Cinco de Mayo. This column is dedicated to the Belle of the Ball - the 138th Kentucky Derby. Remember, you don't have to be at the Derby to party like you're at the Derby!

Brownstone Tavern and Grill (Lakeview) throws a Derby Day Crawfish Boil with 1,000 pounds of crawfish flown in from New Orleans. The boil will be served with cornbread, gumbo, red beans, and rice
Attendees can watch the Derby on 14 LCD TVs and sip on $5 Maker's Mint Juleps! There will be giveaways after each race, including a $500 grand prize. Doors open at 11 a.m.
The aptly named Derby Bar and Grill (Lincoln Park) is hosting" the best Kentucky Derby party outside of Louisville." For the price of $75 you get a 4-hour package that includes premium Mint Juleps, Kentucky food offerings as well as many other drink options. The doors open at 12pm and the package is from 2pm-6pm. Tons of prizes and giveaways. Best dressed contest as well as best hat contest. There is nowhere else to be on Derby Day then at……DERBY!

Kentucky Derby Mint Julep
Serves 6-8 people
- 2 cups - sugar
- 2 cups - water
- 16 oz - Kentucky bourbon, 2 per mint julep (We recommend Bulleit Bourbon)
- Crushed ice
- 10 sprigs fresh mint
- 8 mint julep glasses
