It's the last week of October, peeps!  What's really frightful is that this weekend all the ghouls will be out and about terrorizing y'all's neighborhood!  Here's something to keep you occupied while you scare yourself silly and eat all that bad sugar that is oh, so good!






Monday - October 27th -

The Chicago Humanities Festival kick-off on Saturday in Chicago and continues its run through November 9th.

For the first time in 30 years, the NZ All Blacks will play the USA Eagles in Chicago, IL, presenting New Zealand with the unique opportunity to share the story - of business, culture, and character - with North America.
Rugby instills a fervent, united passion in New Zealanders, and they couldn’t be more thrilled to share this with their partners in North America. 
Leading up to the game, there will be a number of New Zealand and rugby-themed events throughout Chicago, ranging from consumer and trade events to networking receptions.

Intelligensia coffee is giving a shout-out to New Zealand, by adding the ‘Flat White’ to their coffee menu for the week of October 27th at their seven locations in Chicago.

The Harlem Fine Arts Show visits Chicago this week during its 5th Anniversary Tour from October 30th - November 2nd at the Merchandise Mart.  An opening night reception will be held at The DuSable Museum on October 30th.
HFAS 2014, is one of the largest and most prestigious collections of works featuring African-American emerging and established artists from around the world. Our Chicago show will include many artists from around the world. Artists from past shows have included Leroy Campbell, Corinthia Peoples, Elizabeth Baez, Woodrow Nash, True African Art, and more.

The Field Museum will open its latest exhibition, Haka, with a traditional Powhiri on October 30th. The Powhiri, a Māori welcoming ceremony, involves speeches, dancing, singing and a Hongi, which is done by pressing one's nose and forehead (at the same time) to another person at an encounter. The exhibition shares the tradition, unity, and strength of the Haka with videos and images of real, award-winning performances.

This Halloween, join Flirty Girl Fitness (Lincoln Park) for an evening of ghoulish fun! First, come over to Flirty Girl to learn moves from Michael Jackson's classic "Thriller" and get your make-up done before heading over to the Godfrey Hotel's I/O Urban Roofscape for a "Thriller Flash Mob." Guests will also enjoy cocktails and appetizers and, of course, hot music so you can shake your 'groove thang' well past the 'Witching Hour"!

Join Air New Zealand, AIG, and The All Blacks (New Zealand's rugby team) for a special Taste of New Zealand today at Howells and Hoods (435 N. Michigan Ave.) from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.  Come find out about New Zealand and help celebrate the upcoming game between The All Blacks and the USA Eagles Rugby Match.

The Drake’s Palm Court will be celebrating Halloween with a week-long series of spooky and thrilling events. We kick off on Monday, October 27th with the week-long “Spook-Tea Sip if You Dare” event from 1pm-4pm. For $45, guests will enjoy specialty spooky tea sandwich selections. They will be led on a Haunted Tour, to include exclusive Terrifying Tales of the Drake’s Torrid Past.  Haunted Tours will be led at 2:30pm and 4:00pm. 
Continuing on Thursday, October 30th join us for the “All Hallows Eve – Costume Ball” taking place from 8pm-12am. Guests will enjoy a night of dancing and live entertainment provided by Cabaret Diva, Nan Mason.  Costumes are definitely encouraged and prizes will be awarded for best male and female costume.
On Halloween, Friday, October 31st, Palm Court will be celebrating with the official “Halloween Costume and Dance Party” from 9pm-1230am. Dance the night away with the DJ spinning all the latest dance tunes and indulge in our specialty Witch’s Brew. This event costs $25 and includes one (1) drink ticket.
On Saturday, November 1st from 9pm-12;30am, The Annual Masquerade Ball will be held. For $25, guests will enjoy one drink ticket and live swinging jazz and blues music by the Flat Cats.  Make sure to dress to Impress – prizes will be awarded for best male and female masque.
The "Mad Hatter Tea Party" on Sunday, November 2nd from 1pm-4;30pm. The Palm Court invites you to share a cup of tea and conversation with Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the Red and White Queen while you enjoy the sounds of a live harpist.  Ladies are encouraged to wear their best bonnet, hats, and gloves.

What:              Become a coffee sommelier! Discover the delights of Italian coffee in this fast-paced, fun-filled class with Lavazza’s National Brand Ambassador and Food Historian, Francine Segan (James Beard Award Book Award finalist). 

As an expert in Italian food, Francine will guide an engaging class featuring Lavazza’s four new specialty blends. She will also discuss Italy’s important role in coffee history, how coffee goes from tree to cup, tips for brewing the perfect cup, and how to cook with coffee and create dozens of coffee drinks. 

Together, Francine and chefs from Eataly’s La Scuola will demonstrate a collection of Lavazza inspired recipes. After a guided tasting you’ll leave with a new appreciation for coffee and heightened ability to discern the flavor nuances in fine coffee. 



The New Zealand ALL BLACKS vs. USA Eagles at Soldier Field

AT THE GAME: The game starts at 3pm. You’ll want to arrive early to make sure you are seated before kick-off.
There will be a “FanFest” on the Stadium Green at Soldier Field from 11am, and entry into Soldier Field begins two hours before the game.
Be sure to look at Soldier Field’s prohibited items to ensure easy entry into the Stadium.
To note: bags will be searched, and large bags are not permitted. Small binoculars and small cameras (lens size up to 3in) are allowed.
